Specialization: Operations & Supply Chain Management
Home / Programmes / Specializations / Operations & Supply Chain Management
Operations & Supply Chain Management is at the heart of wealth creation for businesses, value for customers and improvement in the living standards of citizens of every country.
Operations managers are responsible for production and services in an ethical and environmentally responsible manner while being responsive to the expanding market expectations. Supply chain managers manage movement of materials, information and transfer of funds to every nook and corner of the world. Organizations need to have efficient internal processes and it is critical for them to be able to link their processes to their customers and suppliers to have highly competitive supply chains.
The mission of this specialization at NDIM is to provide a comprehensive framework for addressing operational and supply chain issues in a global environment. It equips the participants with concepts, tools, methods and skills that help them learn how to produce and distribute products and services profitably. Students are able to design and manage a supply chain immediately after completing this programme.
Operations & Supply Chain Management specialization is unique at NDIM as it builds the concepts of a supply chain from the ground up. It starts with analysis of business processes and how these relate to the overall operational goals of an organization. It then proceeds to illustrate as to how these processes are integrated to form supply chains and how they can be managed to obtain efficient flow of materials, information and funds, thus reinforcing the concept that supply chains are only as good as the processes within and across each organization.
Some of the courses studied in detail under this specialization include Production & Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Management of Service Operations, Total Quality Management, Productivity & Performance Management, Warehousing & Inventory Management and Operations Research Techniques & Applications.
These courses include both strategic issues and practical applications. Sustainability is a common thread across all courses. The courses are delivered using lectures, case studies, videos, simulations and experiential exercises. All classes are supplemented with frequent participation in Industry events and guest lectures. Many of the modules are also taught by professionals from this Industry itself to ensure NDIM students acquire relevant practical knowledge and are adequately skilled to meet the requirements of the Industry immediately after completion of the course.
